1. Mavis and Janice have some beads each. If Mavis gives 30 beads to Janice, she will have 4 times as many beads as Janice. If she gives 150 beads to Janice, she will have 1 1/2    times as many beads as Janice. Find the number of beads Mavis has.
 
2. There were some marbles in Box X and Box Y.    1/4  of the marbles in Box Y were taken out  and put into Box X. After this, both Box Y and Box X contained the same number of marbles. If there were 120 marbles in Box X in the beginning, how many marbles were there in Box Y at first?

1.   10 jugs of water can fill  5/8    of a pail. Another 4 jugs and 5 cups can fill the remaining part of the pail. How many cups of water can the pail hold?


2.   A slice of cake cost 5 times as much as a bun. Yani spent  1/5   of her money on buns and  1/2   of the remainder on 4 slices of cake. How many buns did she buy?


3.   Ali and Muthu share a sum of money. If Ali gives  1/2  of his share to Muthu, Muthu will have $48 more than Ali. If Ali gives 1/4 of his share to Muthu, Muthu will have $28 more than Ali. What is the Alis share?

1.  3/4 of George’s salary is equal to 1/3 of Patrick’s salary.
   If Patrick earns $2000 more than George, find their total salary.

2. At first, Sarah had 4/7 of the number of marbles Jack had. When Sarah received 36 marbles from Jack, both had the same number of marbles. How many marbles were there altogether?

3.  The number of goats in Farm X was  9/4 the number of goats in Farm Y. After 35 goats were transferred from Farm X to Farm Y, there was an equal number of goats in each farm. How many goats were there altogether?

Challenging Questions

Please try these 3 questions:

1. In a class,  3/5    of the pupils are girls and  1/6    of the girls wear spectacles. If   3/4   of the boys wear spectacles, what fraction of the pupils wear spectacles?
 
2. Mrs Rahim baked some muffins.   3/4   of them were blueberry muffins and the rest of them were chocolate muffins. She sold 5/6 of the blueberry muffins and  1/2  of the chocolate muffins. She had 20 muffins left. How many muffins did Mrs Rahim bake?
 
3. Ahmad and Mei Ling saved $800 altogether.   1/4 of Ahmad's savings was $65 more than  1/5  of Mei Ling's savings. How much money did Mei Ling save?

Challenging Questions

Dear Darlings,
Your serving of appetiser is as follows:

1. A container weighs 14kg when it is filled with liquid A. The same container weighs 5 kg when it is filled with liquid B. If liquid A is 4 times as heavy as liquid B, what is the weight of the container?


2. Audrey and Benny had 44 marbles. Audrey and Collin had 52 marbles. The total number of marbles that Benny and Collin had was 56. How many marbles did they have altogether?

3. Mr Tan had 80 pens. He had 4 times as many pens as notebooks. After he had sold an equal number of each item, he had 7 times as many pens as notebooks left. How many of each item did he sell?

You should find these questions a breeze to solve.

Challenging Maths Questions

Dear darlings,
Please try these 2 questions and we will discuss them tomorrow.

1. A drum contains 9 litres more water than a rectangular tank. When 3 litres of water is poured from the tank into the drum, the volume of water in the drum is 11 times the volume of water in the tank. Find the volume of water in the drum at first.


2. Club X had 320 more members than Club Y. When 80 members left Club Y and joined Club X, the number of members in Club X became 5 times the number of members in Club Y.  How many members were there in Club X at first?

I am sure you learnt something from the entertaining speaker in Friday, 22 July 2011.

Reflect on 3 learning tips that you took away and 1 that you can apply in the form.

The school has done alot for you to prepare you for your last lap of the race. Those who are still in your "well",  it is time to come our of your "well" to face the reality!

Days to Prelim written (22 Aug 2011) -29 days. Days to PSLE written(29 Sept 2011)  - 68 days.

Those who have been working hard, you will see your fruit of your labour on 24 Nov.

Those who think you have been working hard, you probably will not have a good harvest. Are you ready to have a basket full of unripe fruits or even not developed fruits?
